The battle of Britain was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air force. This battle was hard. We were outnumbered by German planes. The Germans had 2,550 serviceable air crafts and we only had 1,963 serviceable air crafts. We sent three bombers out on night operations, just in case those Germans wanted to bomb us at night. Germany had failed to destroy our air force. We started our army from scratch. We had scarce supplies. For example, we had only one machine gun for many miles. Are women wanted a part in the battle. There were probably hundreds of bombing drills done in a day. On the first four day of this war, we shot down 182 German planes. After that we shot down 180 more German planes. I believe Germany had a plan to knock out the RAF on the assembly line, but we wouldn't let them get to it. If Germany took out all of our planes Germany probably would have won this war, but we stood strong. When we went up to shoot the Germans down we would call out Tale ho which was our hunting cry. Over a period of time when I went up into the sky to shoot Germans, I got shot down three times and somehow survived. That day I was very grateful that I stayed alive. I also remember that a few days after that we went over to Germany and bombed them. They didn't like our payback. The battle of Britain was kind of like world war one because it was a LONG stalemate. I am glad Germany gave up fighting because the war was getting boring. Also, the people of Britain were getting used to all the bombing from Germany. I am glad this war is over now and I am planning to not see ANY of those German planes in Britain ever again. Please take some time to remember all those Britain pilots that fought to save our country, but didn't live through the war.
