How dare the right wing isolationists accuse me of knowing
of the Japanese plans to bomb Pearl Harbor. The attack wiped out the British
Pacific Fleet in Singapore and Malaya. In fact the amount of British ships sunk
vastly exceeded that of the American losses at Hawaii. To accuse me of
destroying my own Pacific Fleet is unthinkable. I would never deliberately send
thousands of British and American sailors to their deaths. The only good thing
that came out of Pearl Harbor was that America joined the fight. During my trip
to Washington D.C, I was able to convince Roosevelt to declare war against
Germany. My speech to Congress the day after Christmas was the most important
of my life. I believe that my defiance of the Japanese and German aggression
helped rally the Americans to the cause. Not even the mild heart attack I
suffered that night could have stopped my momentum. Finally we have the support
of the Americans!
Onward to Victory!
Winston Churchill
